Stone Therapy

Stone massage has been used in many different cultures for many years. Healers used rock from the riverbeds and warmed them either in hot coals or hot water. Placing stones on cloth on the body and arranging them along the energy centres of the body would help relax the muscles and reduce pain or discomfort, boosting a healing process.

Today stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth stones are still placed on key points on the body. The therapist also holds stones and uses them to massage certain areas of the body.

The stones are made of volcanic thermal basalt stone, rich in iron, so they retain heat. They may be placed at specific points including the back, palms of the hands and between the toes. The heat warms and relaxes the muscle, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and metabolism and calms the nervous system.

The therapist may also place stones and healing crystals on energy centres of the body to rebalance the body and mind. Cool marble stones may also be used to refresh, or reduce swelling and inflammation.

Stone therapy is used in treating:

  • Back pain and aches
  • Poor circulation
  • Osteoarthritis and arthritis pain
  • Stress, anxiety and tension
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

Stone Massage is a deeply relaxing massage and soothes the mind, body and spirit.
