My first career was in IT but I soon became despondent with the work so studied part-time for 5 years to become an osteopath, qualifying in 1998 from the College of Osteopaths, London.
Over the years my style of working has moved increasingly into 'cranial osteopathy' which is a very gentle and deep way of treating a wide variety of problems that might reside in any part of the body, and not just in the head as its name would imply.
I have worked at several children's clinics including the Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) in London and now work voluntarily at the Manchester Osteopathic Centre for Children. These clinics are centres of excellence that have provided me with invaluable experience in developing cranial osteopathic skills to treat babies and children up to 16 years of age, and pregnant and post-partum mothers.
I do enjoy my work and am very passionate about it. I do not regard osteopathy as a panacea for all ills but over the years have realised that it has great potential to heal. I enjoy working with practitioners from other disciplines and am always open to cross-referrals. My family and I have had personal experience of homeopathy, medical herbalism, and counselling.
I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council which was established by an Act of Parliament. The Council exists to protect patients by promoting excellence in osteopathic care. Only those who have demonstrated safe and competent practice are thereby admitted to its statutory register and are allowed to call themselves osteopaths and practice as such. All osteopaths on the register must have medical malpractice insurance and follow a strict code of conduct.
I do provide treatments through private health schemes and am also BUPA and AXA PPP recognised.
