Myofascial Release

Heather Wilson, Soft Tissue and Structural therapist is currently offering Myofascial Release which is Health Insurance Approved.

What is Myofascial Release? (MFR)

Derived from the Latin 'muscle band', MFR is very different to a Swedish Massage, massaging a muscle or ligament. The techniques are applied slowly to the body, using water or aqueous cream if necessary; to facilitate the gentle sustained pressure and stretch.

MFR techniques encourage the freedom of movement within the tissues, relieving any dysfunctions, stiffness or pain. It treats the injury at the source, allowing you to heal at the deepest level. It is a specialised physical therapy that affects and releases the restrictions within the fascial network.

As the essence of MFR is a gentle and slow, the physical and emotional aspect of an injury can be addressed in a safe and gentle way.

The Treatment

MFR techniques need to be applied directly to the skin, and it may be necessary to use water or an aqueous based cream to assist the strokes. It is necessary to undress down to underwear/shorts; however towels or a blanket can be used to cover other areas.

During a treatment the fascial web begins to unwind as it releases its traction or 'snag' on the body. You may feel your body getting lighter, twitching or even moving during your treatment; this is a natural process for the body to correct itself.

Everyone can benefit from MFR regardless of their age, fitness and health; however in certain circumstances it may be necessary to contact your GP prior to treatment.
