Kinesiology
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a holistic therapy, taking into account the body's physical, emotional, chemical (nutritrional) and energy status in a safe, non-intrusive way.
It uses muscle testing to communicate directly with the body.
The human body is a network of electrical and chemical pathways. When we are healthy the system is balanced, however when the body is under threat a system ''short circuits'' or overloads and ''blows a fuse''.
Having assessed the imbalances in the body, a practioner can identify and prioritise the most effective means to redress the balance. Emotional stress can inhibit the immune system and interfere with healing if it has not been addressed.
Muscle responses are assessed in order to obtain information about what is happening within the body's systems.
Kinesiolgy Practitioners use fundamental means to assess a body's health problems. They then apply a wide range of gentle yet powerful techniques e.g. acupressure, nutritional therapy, herbology, flower remedies, colour etc......These restore the balance, and create and sustain health, well-being and more effective functioning of the body. Generally it can be used along side other therapies.
Kinesiology doesn't interfere with medication. It may be necessary, with your consent, to contact your GP if there are any concerns regarding your health and the appropriateness of treatment.
Kinesiology is very beneficial as a preventative measure, addressing dormant or underlying issues or as a maintenance measure following a course of treatment.
Possible Benefits of Kinesiology
Physical
- Prevent illness
- Relieve pain and spasm
- improve posture
- Increases energy and vitality
- Enhances brain function, balance and coordination
- Improves learning awareness e.g. reading & writing, spelling and preperation for exams
Energy
- Identifies underlying energy blockages and the most appropriate method to release the blockage
Chemical
- Identifies food intolerances and the most appropriate treatment programme
I work closely with Helena Oades, a nutritional therapist at Wellforce. A referral to Helena may be advisable in chronic or more stubborn cases.
Emotional (Mental)
- Reduce stress and the causes of stress
- Facilitate life goals
- Releases emotional blockages & stress prior to important events e.g. interviews, exams
- Assists in overcoming fears & phobias
- Facilitate the healing of trauma
In severe or more stubborn cases, it may be necessary (with your consent) to be referred to a more specialist health care professionl at Wellforce e.g. counsellor, life coach, hypnotherapist etc.....
People of all ages (children to elderly) can benefit from Kinesiology regardless of their fitness and health status.
The Treatment
Prior to the first session, a comprehensive health questionnaire would be completed and discussed, along with the reason for refferal.
During the assessment, the practioner applies pressure to a limb and the client is asked to match or resist that pressure, this enables us to evaluate the functioning of the muscle in response to a specific stimulus.
The response of a muscle is feedback for our assessment & diagnosis. This information is used to determine what the priority stresses are and the best way to address them.
On discussion & agreement an appropriate treatment plan is implemented. A more permament change is generally achieved, if a home programme is undertaken.
You may be advised about:
- Lifestyle changes
- Dietary changes
- Prescribed supplements or flower remedies
- Exercise
Sometimes after the initial session, the changes can be subtle and therefore go unnoticed.
The number & frequency of treatments is very individual and depends on the severity and chronicity of the problem.
