Cranial Osteopathy

Healing through Cranial Osteopathy

Involuntary Movement

Cranial osteopaths or osteopaths in the cranial field can feel a subtle, rhythmical shape change that is present in all body tissues including the cranial bones which is called 'involuntary movement'.

Structural Stresses and Strains

The body is trying to deal with past stresses and strains which have accumulated over many decades (potentially starting from difficulties at birth) but then if it really cannot cope anymore, symptoms occur.

By harnessing the involuntary movement/mechanism, these strains can be identified and released  and as a result remove the cause of the patient's symptoms. It also improves their overall state of health.

Suitable for all Ages

It is a very gentle, safe but deep form of osteopathic treatment which is suitable for people of all ages, from babies to the very elderly with acute or chronic problems in any part of the body, includind the head.

Because it is so gentle the patient can usually not feel anything at all. However, this does not mean that nothing has been achieved and often the benefits of the treatment can be felt immediately after the treatment or are felt several days later. Immediately after a treatment the patient might feel unusually tired or, conversely, very energetic.

All Encompassing

Osteopaths may have different specialities including sports injuries, paediatrics (treatment for children), visceral (treatment on organs) but cranial osteopathy encompasses all of these. It respects the body's ability to heal itself in its own time by supporting it through this process. It relies wholly on the body's natural and intelligent inclination towards self-healing to reach a healthy balance and resulting homeostasis.
